The “Game of Life” is a well-known and beloved board game for its fun gameplay and a somewhat immersion of a person’s life in a utopian world. Players navigate through milestones like their first career, marriage and having kids, guided by RNG! But do not let that fool you, as some major decision-making opportunities add more depth to the game, encouraging some critical thinking. However, the game lacks meaningful ethical reflection, only focusing on individual success and accumulation of wealth without addressing social responsibility, ethical dilemmas or the diversity of human experience. Furthermore, it overlooks the environment that the world might be placed in, it also fails to incorporate the ethical imperative of sustainability. While the game is enjoyable, the game could benefit from a more ethical view and prompt players to consider a broader view of different social classes and lifestyles.

Our expansion makes the game have a system called Legacy, where all the past runs of the game affect the future runs of the game while keeping all the most basic aspects of the game. Having this in will make the players think of what might happen in the future of runs of this game and what might need to be considered when playing. This helps build an emotional attachment to the player with the newly added characters in the game, where their legacy is passed on with all the effort that the player has put in. This will make the player not have a fresh new start each time, thinking that everyone has a fair playing ground, but instead, like the real world, life is not fair, everyone has their advantage and disadvantages and has to pick up where they have left off. The game will add a new type of cards which includes Short, Long and Character Passives cards. Having these cards include more RNG, makes the game more realistic and helps the player visualize the diversity of different social classes. Due to some of the effects of the cards, it reflects what can happen in the real world and how players can reflect on how it is affecting them.
